The last thing to do is put it together with the sound and foley. I cannot wait to see the final film but I will not see them until after the deadline. The scenes and lighting that was used made our models look really good so kudos to Deon and Dom. I think that is pretty much the end of the project. Just waiting to see the final film.<br />
<br />
Onto the next project...Oly Waltershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02871000531208525919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8799499787791851288.post-44881728474031160702011-01-07T22:04:00.000+00:002011-01-11T22:25:28.333+00:00TexturingI have fully UV mapped my house and now textured it. I have sent it away to Deon to get textured as well so it will fit in with our scene (so its the same wood etc). I decided to have a go myself too just to see how it would look with my UV map and textures I would use.<br />
<br />
I began with the door as it was small and quite simple. I UV mapped that very quickly and managed to find some seamless wood textures for it.<br />
<br />
This is what my UV map looked like after I took it into PhotoShop and applied the relevant textures.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8_PqOdnmL-tnCbfTQ-5rbH12sqQmN8oOfvjppHW3S2IwiQuoXyCSa0aBv8qu0Hygmlw7tRcKuxhOltFNiZaTmZ89MezJSv41wOeiIGFZDO2jwDQiwtcCazSsZ0HsPDZOY8CFSnCE4L_U/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-01-11+at+11.34.34.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8_PqOdnmL-tnCbfTQ-5rbH12sqQmN8oOfvjppHW3S2IwiQuoXyCSa0aBv8qu0Hygmlw7tRcKuxhOltFNiZaTmZ89MezJSv41wOeiIGFZDO2jwDQiwtcCazSsZ0HsPDZOY8CFSnCE4L_U/s320/Screen+shot+2011-01-11+at+11.34.34.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I was pleased with how quickly I achieved this but thought there would be a catch. Thankfully there wasn't and I was pleased with how the final door came out - after the texture was applied. The picture below shows the finished door.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJTdfbp0eRtSKfd0_6dpUZQtbFA8y98rNPiYTLzz7CqPuLrbSoFMdzCBVAVDMOMa7wgLyH-AI9qnVX0J2S3jDtokThxfZuOH7KQGOk5Ab964TZC9A6SWdyctVdvdkV-JTBtGyMPihXz40/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-01-11+at+11.34.23.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJTdfbp0eRtSKfd0_6dpUZQtbFA8y98rNPiYTLzz7CqPuLrbSoFMdzCBVAVDMOMa7wgLyH-AI9qnVX0J2S3jDtokThxfZuOH7KQGOk5Ab964TZC9A6SWdyctVdvdkV-JTBtGyMPihXz40/s320/Screen+shot+2011-01-11+at+11.34.23.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My next task was the house. I had already UV mapped it which had taken me three days because of all the detail. All those beams almost killed me. It was like fitting together a very tedious jigsaw puzzle but I did it. Again I had to take it into PhotoShop and add the actually colour. I used the images I had for research and made my decisions from there. The wood for the beams I wanted to be light. This was to contrast the door but also because I wanted a timber kind of colour and I found the perfect texture for that. I then needed to add the white colour. I tried with pure white but it was too bright so I ended up with a very light grey which made the house look really good. For the roof, I found a red tile colour and applied that to it. It Came out really nice and clean too. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here is the UV texture:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRmQndtvjvdYPxhr4twkWJExUBvkf4QcidlxqQebq6qaAbvte0O8JFcpfHnx7vyTQDgJghVSa4VSPg_NJDy8gqadsHuk-LRLlfb_7pB9waAQ5yEkEaMs3FxUSwDnRl9LQJiC2LIIsZAhk/s1600/house.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRmQndtvjvdYPxhr4twkWJExUBvkf4QcidlxqQebq6qaAbvte0O8JFcpfHnx7vyTQDgJghVSa4VSPg_NJDy8gqadsHuk-LRLlfb_7pB9waAQ5yEkEaMs3FxUSwDnRl9LQJiC2LIIsZAhk/s320/house.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After a few slight adjustments, It came out quite nicely on my model. Below is my final textured model. There are more textures on the windows, to make them see through, and the crosshatching on the windows to make them look more like lead.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr3oE_ixasO6FrgxERxVbW2MOUQ5CG2dq_oGo24SNXOWB-0bZeYPUmll7_7qdPfo9Xz5P3Siro5EnBlIFxXTkaKpw4emP9Kr7w34ptJQggOycSRHUzmtm2cDsOxASYJAZzXYKaUvLlLqo/s1600/housetextured.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr3oE_ixasO6FrgxERxVbW2MOUQ5CG2dq_oGo24SNXOWB-0bZeYPUmll7_7qdPfo9Xz5P3Siro5EnBlIFxXTkaKpw4emP9Kr7w34ptJQggOycSRHUzmtm2cDsOxASYJAZzXYKaUvLlLqo/s320/housetextured.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I am pleased with the way it has turned out. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I finally moved onto the trees. When I began they looked like this:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJVyOuIk_dTLsrIR8Ba77efLO5Yvw2Q-ZAkHorZktNGz_68mVm2Fsq3pAML6fBWXIfFXanHZW03BpuozEHSOLvARyd5bIgFrYS8r3wow4gQhe5W-bu4_jryTlV0LESbqAYYkASPDoeXMY/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-01-11+at+10.58.45.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="219" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJVyOuIk_dTLsrIR8Ba77efLO5Yvw2Q-ZAkHorZktNGz_68mVm2Fsq3pAML6fBWXIfFXanHZW03BpuozEHSOLvARyd5bIgFrYS8r3wow4gQhe5W-bu4_jryTlV0LESbqAYYkASPDoeXMY/s320/Screen+shot+2011-01-11+at+10.58.45.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">All the leaves are little planes, so I made a leaf texture in PhotoShop and then saved it as a PNG with a transparent background. This meant that when I used it as a texture, the background will still be transparent, leaving just the leaf there on the tree. The trunk was not a very nice texture so I made a texture and applied it to make it look like a birch tree. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This was the end result.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjor0_b2nge3S2B5G1dJeWqZwInZVGWzMZhQ1PKKXpZ37paG5fvBE8L3LImibu7Jq6Yik5D0NLU5CIiw7xKmx-uMoutAhS3qgltHMFFukJlZitS5ZwDs2G24Fp7J38r7UcGoZ4fqpRsfYE/s1600/tree.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjor0_b2nge3S2B5G1dJeWqZwInZVGWzMZhQ1PKKXpZ37paG5fvBE8L3LImibu7Jq6Yik5D0NLU5CIiw7xKmx-uMoutAhS3qgltHMFFukJlZitS5ZwDs2G24Fp7J38r7UcGoZ4fqpRsfYE/s320/tree.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I think they look like quite good trees. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">There is nothing really left for me to do. I have spoken to my group and handed over all my models and textures to Deon for him add and render the street scene. Dom is doing the animation and then using hers and Deon's machines to render (as they are beasts). So it looks like my work is done.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
It took such a long time to fully texture map it. Because of all the beams on the front, I had to add every side of the beam as well as the fronts and the backs and the roof. The rest of the team has textured theirs so they want to use the same style of textures. I have passed on my model and my texture map from them to add the different maps (texture, bump, diffuse etc) to it and then add it to the street to create a whole street for the rat to run around in.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD1T7qtur1dFHIidWFzXN1rtum10boHgO2LzwkXx0uF428yUXYprWJeyusz4CFvgGVUgRkNToaUaqmQ0mL9ItRCfwAjgxH3h73lPHlbvE06gWSpVU3N_I43izckZl0mRW-Brsof5Y2I_k/s1600/housethird.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD1T7qtur1dFHIidWFzXN1rtum10boHgO2LzwkXx0uF428yUXYprWJeyusz4CFvgGVUgRkNToaUaqmQ0mL9ItRCfwAjgxH3h73lPHlbvE06gWSpVU3N_I43izckZl0mRW-Brsof5Y2I_k/s320/housethird.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>I have tried to upload the image of the UV map but the image will not up on the blog because the lines are too thin.<br />
<br />
I have also finished modelling and texturing the dining table and chairs. I used the dark wood that I wanted to and spent lots of time making sure the grain was the correct way by UV mapping the table and chairs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGrBBHAABL-mySPeTYJOCB_Lf746UogCBBoss6cFkCLDDOefSVX2F5q0le7EuXUoiHUWDzR2I0SqRRSp13IDJGILfG-Lqx_RCAx1IhaRXyrlLYl0nqsSwROVDO6kRqWJcWVl2QV5q_r2U/s1600/diningset.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGrBBHAABL-mySPeTYJOCB_Lf746UogCBBoss6cFkCLDDOefSVX2F5q0le7EuXUoiHUWDzR2I0SqRRSp13IDJGILfG-Lqx_RCAx1IhaRXyrlLYl0nqsSwROVDO6kRqWJcWVl2QV5q_r2U/s320/diningset.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I sent this away to the group but they already had another in place and decided to use that one instead as it saved importing and extra tweaking.<br />
<br />
The group have asked me to create some trees. to add to the scene.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTByMbej9eiQ9f0BbhV6XfZRK0b0x8Xggt25DAXS1Ltd17DczYOftD59cPOyJdP-MClfZ4Y87nt9m1NGcWSczgllziY5qCxgQC99AWnOjAN_DiOIZrrPhJX-LaJHFPqGuq3_boeTDdf_4/s1600/tree2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTByMbej9eiQ9f0BbhV6XfZRK0b0x8Xggt25DAXS1Ltd17DczYOftD59cPOyJdP-MClfZ4Y87nt9m1NGcWSczgllziY5qCxgQC99AWnOjAN_DiOIZrrPhJX-LaJHFPqGuq3_boeTDdf_4/s320/tree2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIAVX-X5-A6CSdIeQC5LYX3dUEst3ZTPyKJ-j5UwFQgd5Lv3zYxoKY7rCcpsBXLTx7pIeoMSkJcLPNORoXqxtR9Ffp_O_1th3QrVwVhb2e0XcXi8Mbi0gASKhlU-f43aE9i0kLtZTHIoA/s1600/tree.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIAVX-X5-A6CSdIeQC5LYX3dUEst3ZTPyKJ-j5UwFQgd5Lv3zYxoKY7rCcpsBXLTx7pIeoMSkJcLPNORoXqxtR9Ffp_O_1th3QrVwVhb2e0XcXi8Mbi0gASKhlU-f43aE9i0kLtZTHIoA/s320/tree.jpeg" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a><br />
I looked at some tutorials online and then used the paint effects to create the trees. I had to tweak them a bit, by turning it into polygons and changing the texture of the leaves. I had to create the textures on PhotoShop and then export them as PNG files to make sure the backgrounds were transparent. This made the trees look pretty respectable. I may change the texture of the trunk because I'm not too happy with it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Progress is looking better. As a group we are almost done and soon will begin animating.Oly Waltershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02871000531208525919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8799499787791851288.post-50518825019852922572010-12-23T23:29:00.005+00:002011-01-11T22:03:34.603+00:00ProgressProgress has been very slow over the past month. This, I believe, has been due to everyone including myself, winding down because of the end of term and getting ready to have a bit of a rest for christmas. I havent been doing much during my time at university because, to be honest, there always seems like there are funner things to do. This has been fatal to my workflow.<br />
<br />
I have finally finished my house and added more much more timber and textured the window and the lead which is cross hatched on the front. It will take me a long time to texture and UV map it because of all the timber. I think it may have been better to use a different method which would have made texturing easier.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLt9n-pG5teCrvcLWYOB2h6CempXlaAToaZiA0qkI8KR6ZulYC60eitILGij9LR759Wkw9QkKwvQosxqR-if-dFX4M1XzLnZw1jMFMsVUvDH447VGqN5qBgUzA6wldl5QBE9GWtmHChHo/s1600/housethird.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLt9n-pG5teCrvcLWYOB2h6CempXlaAToaZiA0qkI8KR6ZulYC60eitILGij9LR759Wkw9QkKwvQosxqR-if-dFX4M1XzLnZw1jMFMsVUvDH447VGqN5qBgUzA6wldl5QBE9GWtmHChHo/s320/housethird.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>The method I used was to create additional faces by using the 'create edge' tool and then extruding them out. What would have been much easier would be to just create a cube and texture it and then add the beams as separate components. This would have meant I would be texturing cuboids and could move the timber around more. It would have also made texture mapping easier.<br />
<br />
I have also modelled the chair which is in the style of the era but that also needs to be textured. I have volunteered to make the whole dining table as well as all the chairs and I can make them in the same theme. I am going to texture it all in dark wood which gives it an older look.<br />
<br />
This is my chair that I have modelled.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipPJhzd1r4FX0fmSeHqfhX9RiLmkF9wPTJ6Mf7-KTKnBiNUfeaiicCZM8H66moiFv6nFB-42alO1WL1FrMTGyTCCPaMs4ilKvU52QdCmxpzFVwpSZFO1T4G7UNezu3HgCZ5Ybv6F4M8mE/s1600/chair.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipPJhzd1r4FX0fmSeHqfhX9RiLmkF9wPTJ6Mf7-KTKnBiNUfeaiicCZM8H66moiFv6nFB-42alO1WL1FrMTGyTCCPaMs4ilKvU52QdCmxpzFVwpSZFO1T4G7UNezu3HgCZ5Ybv6F4M8mE/s320/chair.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is a shot of the dining table and chairs that I have modelled with the same theme. LIke I said above, I am going to texture them in dark wood to make it look better. This dining table and chairs were most likely used by slightly wealthier families but will still fit in our scene.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi26O_Cq7ahBkrgGGQJp8O70oBha7Yy7SEycr0zlMnrDuSFVi-XpuHIb977UUq3tONQEckyIr2cic6e0Nq18Zl3zGRRkTMCjw7t_tb_Bpxu1nWV_kJLnKYNhoBGEllBAfvlxSrftP8rk9s/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-01-11+at+10.58.07.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="269" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi26O_Cq7ahBkrgGGQJp8O70oBha7Yy7SEycr0zlMnrDuSFVi-XpuHIb977UUq3tONQEckyIr2cic6e0Nq18Zl3zGRRkTMCjw7t_tb_Bpxu1nWV_kJLnKYNhoBGEllBAfvlxSrftP8rk9s/s320/Screen+shot+2011-01-11+at+10.58.07.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
Over the holiday I am really going to have to work harder to get this done.Oly Waltershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02871000531208525919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8799499787791851288.post-35283015920395254022010-12-07T18:36:00.002+00:002011-01-06T14:33:11.775+00:00ModellingI have got quite far in modelling the house. As a group we have agreed on the scale and have all made sure we are working in metres. Progress could be faster but I am finding it hard to find time at the moment. I have almost completed the house but I am looking to improve it with lots of beams. I have added a texture on the window to make them transparent and added the cross hatching on the windows as wells as giving them a lead texture. I also created a door which still needs to be textured.<br />

<br />
Another thing I have been asked to do is model a chair. This is quite quick to do and I can use my research from the museum of London as I picked up some images of some from there.<br />

I think progress is slow at the moment but I aim to pick up the pace soon.Oly Waltershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02871000531208525919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8799499787791851288.post-13279614380994188102010-11-20T14:59:00.002+00:002011-01-06T14:29:21.171+00:00ProductionSo I begun to draw up some basic concepts. I have based it on the photos of the houses and the pictures from rochester. The house look very top-heavy and very light. They are half timber with white render in the walls. I am only putting a lot of detail on one side of the house, as the other sides will not be seen as the houses are close together and cramped up.<br />
<br />
I have also begun to start modelling a basic house. It is only a basic block shape at the moment but I need to add the timbers going down the house. I also need to add windows and a door.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1wLTXy3D_bpZ6PvaAqK2yZRNh_CY_Py3h81aigAXOtT-kK_aLo8p3becBMYEHi9OuCE6jwRmvQuWrnIJaZVwYHCA-Vpfsgswsj9n_tndTB4ITVocqZUT2YSDAY_mUiiwVLovGETaxFDw/s1600/housefirst.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1wLTXy3D_bpZ6PvaAqK2yZRNh_CY_Py3h81aigAXOtT-kK_aLo8p3becBMYEHi9OuCE6jwRmvQuWrnIJaZVwYHCA-Vpfsgswsj9n_tndTB4ITVocqZUT2YSDAY_mUiiwVLovGETaxFDw/s320/housefirst.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I will put the pictures up of concepts as soon as my scanner decides to work again.<br />
<br />
Slow progress so far.Oly Waltershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02871000531208525919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8799499787791851288.post-53986961186086824642010-11-17T15:52:00.000+00:002011-01-11T21:52:09.869+00:00Concepts and storyboardsI have drawn up some concepts for my house. After a group discussion we have decided to all model a house to begin with and then duplicate them to make a street. They will be rearranged in different orders so that they are not obviously the same houses. <br />
<br />
We have also agreed on a storyline for the animation. This was an idea from Gerome which we all adjusted and added input to create the final storyline. Dom then created the storyboard and it can be seen on the group blogs.<br />
<br />
For my concepts, I have used the pictures I took from the museum and the pictures that Lily and Sarah took in Rochester. I have then drawn a house that would fit in around that time. I started with little doodles of components like the door knob and windows. This then developed into a full house. The pictures are all shown below.<br />
<br />
<br />
Below are some doodles of different parts of the scene from the era we are looking at. I have begun to look at the windows and doors and also had a rough concept for a lamp in the street, depending on the time of day.<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNBUELtpsfhlXBF-yep39U9xil0iAlunCizo6S-GdiR4Vkz4anKOcG7Jfw0ztR2-FKxFBGU40cnNSYw9vPMk2pw8hwgHtkBiiRGCDd_nOMLtKnjRve6uRXKYsrRGkaOlBd2_gaZQKSElU/s1600/concepts6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNBUELtpsfhlXBF-yep39U9xil0iAlunCizo6S-GdiR4Vkz4anKOcG7Jfw0ztR2-FKxFBGU40cnNSYw9vPMk2pw8hwgHtkBiiRGCDd_nOMLtKnjRve6uRXKYsrRGkaOlBd2_gaZQKSElU/s320/concepts6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have started to think a bit more about the sort of house I wish to model. This image is more of a shop window so will probably not model something like this but I am going in the right direction.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqEHNLTazWe_tvktjYeal_XonsV0XmOkSP1oKCZHEO2S1O_XbV-QRd8QfPN8s0dbiDjCLbUgpiFou6xnRiUPCf0mLkoXqwCGYfwcp2tWymeS7_6UK4xdj0nmiVWzu10iDowC9jSCj0u8Y/s1600/concepts5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqEHNLTazWe_tvktjYeal_XonsV0XmOkSP1oKCZHEO2S1O_XbV-QRd8QfPN8s0dbiDjCLbUgpiFou6xnRiUPCf0mLkoXqwCGYfwcp2tWymeS7_6UK4xdj0nmiVWzu10iDowC9jSCj0u8Y/s320/concepts5.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have begun to design a house that I am going to model. It looks a little complicated but I think I will be able to pull it off. It is exactly the sort of houses we were all thinking about modelling and this is a good starting point. It still needs some development.</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPHUt4hMxw1fJ2Iq5qL6PQeu2ZlX1OR-l_w7eXxvJ0DhBGGp4PqaWFd4Ho-X-E0D4ALWLLqYSV-2hiE_oNeWPPYQE-eFCmy24nMri0enK91AuXwkMQz5roSeLdMIguXH_t31FBdx4HkmY/s1600/concepts4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPHUt4hMxw1fJ2Iq5qL6PQeu2ZlX1OR-l_w7eXxvJ0DhBGGp4PqaWFd4Ho-X-E0D4ALWLLqYSV-2hiE_oNeWPPYQE-eFCmy24nMri0enK91AuXwkMQz5roSeLdMIguXH_t31FBdx4HkmY/s320/concepts4.JPG" width="313" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have developed the house more. I have made it simpler and realised the the sides and back do not need to look too complicated. It is in the style we are after as it is half timber and will have white walls. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPHUt4hMxw1fJ2Iq5qL6PQeu2ZlX1OR-l_w7eXxvJ0DhBGGp4PqaWFd4Ho-X-E0D4ALWLLqYSV-2hiE_oNeWPPYQE-eFCmy24nMri0enK91AuXwkMQz5roSeLdMIguXH_t31FBdx4HkmY/s1600/concepts4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh163AXsGF7WNiIpPyrm6fI4Ox_S5I02cJWtS6q7DF00QiLisd3zv27HYkbRyAv6oluYnOKpLcUYuSiitBKVpTuhHpXjX4AHbrPXTpzrM4Nms-nXoFLef1s3DKFgM7m3jLvhUfmS88pdnA/s1600/concepts2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh163AXsGF7WNiIpPyrm6fI4Ox_S5I02cJWtS6q7DF00QiLisd3zv27HYkbRyAv6oluYnOKpLcUYuSiitBKVpTuhHpXjX4AHbrPXTpzrM4Nms-nXoFLef1s3DKFgM7m3jLvhUfmS88pdnA/s320/concepts2.JPG" width="301" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These have been developed again and have a colour style so you can see how the colours are going to contrast. The house on the left looks a little too simple so I am looking to model the house on the right.</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJp61fj7oElO_nup4Iyz_5rQlUKQkibX6At-YXKK2ZSZUIAM7hFqOPsmwTu4MJKUwz16PmDynUc2L94U4aP21w1PyaQ0ATLiPjGFo7MQve33BUEqASMl5069cqefLmRll_eYU-KFboijg/s1600/concept7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJp61fj7oElO_nup4Iyz_5rQlUKQkibX6At-YXKK2ZSZUIAM7hFqOPsmwTu4MJKUwz16PmDynUc2L94U4aP21w1PyaQ0ATLiPjGFo7MQve33BUEqASMl5069cqefLmRll_eYU-KFboijg/s320/concept7.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">With my concepts and designs, I can begin to model. </div>Oly Waltershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02871000531208525919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8799499787791851288.post-57106817616860435392010-11-10T15:49:00.005+00:002011-01-11T21:28:17.420+00:00TripsYesterday I went to London Zoo to look at different environments. I didn't just look at environments related to my theme but I looked at lots of different environments, how things were adjusted to suit each animal and to see things interact with the environment. I also went to the Museum of London to find out about the history of London. Unfortunately I was not allowed to take any photos using flash and it was very dark so very few photographs were visible. However, I did pick up a lot of information about London around the time of the plague and the conditions in medieval London. I also found out about the clothes they would wear and how they would do everyday things like washing and and going to market.<br />
<br />
These are the images I took of different types of environment. These show the different types of environment and how the animals are interacting in their environment:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgilL9EiQZWDf8iXgY9qL-DKttrJV31reK0428s9JhfhUJunIqklt1OKqh89Cl6pWZG6CfDHlHB6EzzBoZXv25cWtuswQU-2aS7tCM-5xTkpajq6vi9YlEsUB_stb9qIIIclZsGJR_NTUQ/s1600/DSCN1040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgilL9EiQZWDf8iXgY9qL-DKttrJV31reK0428s9JhfhUJunIqklt1OKqh89Cl6pWZG6CfDHlHB6EzzBoZXv25cWtuswQU-2aS7tCM-5xTkpajq6vi9YlEsUB_stb9qIIIclZsGJR_NTUQ/s400/DSCN1040.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is the penguin pool. The bowl is filled with water so they can swim around but they have added rocks and minimal amounts of bushes and trees. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
This is a bird enclosure. It shows how they have kept the environment same as the surroundings, with trees and bushes, but have put a large net over it to keep the birds in.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjchMJ3_JaizWEnJcMzXux9LJk1bXgtnTHCA6V0ZVaap2O_y_UPHesAygupOakDMjJP7q7k7kj_Rtv64mP-LyXQUJB8gKkjfVdYQB33WlCrHdhFcR01D_H4GWS7X1mYm7V2t96_PnZDlek/s1600/DSCN1059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjchMJ3_JaizWEnJcMzXux9LJk1bXgtnTHCA6V0ZVaap2O_y_UPHesAygupOakDMjJP7q7k7kj_Rtv64mP-LyXQUJB8gKkjfVdYQB33WlCrHdhFcR01D_H4GWS7X1mYm7V2t96_PnZDlek/s400/DSCN1059.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This was in the reptile house. The environment is very hot and dry. There are some logs and trees to climb up onto. This is to suit the animal.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhDykAEwPTFMeVuEiUU4sdMhBI_HL-aOlzS14cNRklCnWRUqibvIsa2KaWp2jJzDC-pY81OYJBPuvPRLe9HUvQ2VdxGOdXYPfxqEeTMuTECOmWr5ZM-N3FYSLTmXk9rtadzHY9qBbniEs/s1600/DSCN1068.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhDykAEwPTFMeVuEiUU4sdMhBI_HL-aOlzS14cNRklCnWRUqibvIsa2KaWp2jJzDC-pY81OYJBPuvPRLe9HUvQ2VdxGOdXYPfxqEeTMuTECOmWr5ZM-N3FYSLTmXk9rtadzHY9qBbniEs/s400/DSCN1068.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is an environment I found in the reptile house. There was no animals in this enclosure but the textures are similar to that which we will use in our environment as we are using timber. Around that era, the floor was mainly wooden floor boards so this image gives good reference.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This environment has been specifically designed for the frog which lives here. It is very hot and damp and bright which replicates its natural environment.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The next set of pictures are of different textures that will be relevant for the project brief. They are textures of wood and different buildings. They also show water on different materials because our scene is going to have water or sewage in making the streets wet. This shows how the water reflects off the different materials.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

The water mainly soaks into the edges leaving the middle quite dry which is why it forms the water pattern it does. In very wet weather,the middle of the bricks tend to dry first as the water does not soak in as far as there are not as many cracks and crevices for the water to go into.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz-w85NIlORpvtBSWpxXX6bsLeO9Q4eGFl1sfTUcU5VR15bFSB0_6FzaMEV6GByJGyxPy-Po5BRiaQbVAWk2ppnSaz4Em-9acV5wAEiHNyCtrmuQWCs4o5YW1Ryw_qMzADwIW12HcMNM8/s1600/DSCN1000.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz-w85NIlORpvtBSWpxXX6bsLeO9Q4eGFl1sfTUcU5VR15bFSB0_6FzaMEV6GByJGyxPy-Po5BRiaQbVAWk2ppnSaz4Em-9acV5wAEiHNyCtrmuQWCs4o5YW1Ryw_qMzADwIW12HcMNM8/s320/DSCN1000.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This was a good picture to show texture and also patterns. It would be a good pattern to use on walls or decoration on the buildings.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAlSuR_52jFat-Ek3sA0PQJaIZP3Qxmh4jRDM43U3mb261-0izYvK6jiLLXkRAKQmCYSZcB-rWdlWyOoTPWjh7Kp5e0ZEGKj9hXbB-X7U8aK3nm2gNgdqzghPs1FnnKEbvrpGdfmJa2VQ/s1600/DSCN1001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAlSuR_52jFat-Ek3sA0PQJaIZP3Qxmh4jRDM43U3mb261-0izYvK6jiLLXkRAKQmCYSZcB-rWdlWyOoTPWjh7Kp5e0ZEGKj9hXbB-X7U8aK3nm2gNgdqzghPs1FnnKEbvrpGdfmJa2VQ/s320/DSCN1001.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This image is to show the texture of wood close up. It is going to be good reference in our scene if we decide that it is going to be a wet and rainy day because we can look at how the water stays in the wood.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This rock shows a good texture that can be used on the cobbled street. It is the colour that is similar to the colour we will use and the different tones on the rock give a good reference.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4yq0to5E5QWY9W2IUspFEmCCC8Pz6ZjPUdVW7BY_VWaf9n_vGdPN7gp5Ppoyh6STqkPqwAJgs2AsrSwdxDNrzGhUfbGALSsS_OM6opwvhPFyDFovkTHsGjxSdKZcY3V_Nf_VpAY3LD8M/s1600/DSCN1014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4yq0to5E5QWY9W2IUspFEmCCC8Pz6ZjPUdVW7BY_VWaf9n_vGdPN7gp5Ppoyh6STqkPqwAJgs2AsrSwdxDNrzGhUfbGALSsS_OM6opwvhPFyDFovkTHsGjxSdKZcY3V_Nf_VpAY3LD8M/s320/DSCN1014.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This image shows how the water sits on top of the wood and how this effects the texture underneath. In our scene, there will be some materials that water will not soak into so this is good reference for that. </div><br />

</div> Some of these textures will be useful on the half timber houses that we need to build in our environment. The effect of the rain on some of the rocks will also be useful when we build the cobbled street.<br />
<br />
When I went to the Museum of London, I managed to take some photos to give us a good idea of what life was like back then. It gave me an idea of the houses and the clothing that they wore.<br />
<br />
This was a paved path outside of the museum but gave a good reference of the how the roads and paths would look in the era we are looking at. The drains would definitely not have been around then so they are to be ignored.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipSBiEInAO56fl_m4oT2AsD4OFoHad86rdo8Lh-LGxe4E-IjiEq2XNq9aA5i1GMgMDvLefZrI3pcVDnyZpTC1_H3zffRWU8yfH3-7qPoqA2OUI74ZVJlOmI0bPT_ejhLKJBVWJzrHhERE/s1600/DSCN1206.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipSBiEInAO56fl_m4oT2AsD4OFoHad86rdo8Lh-LGxe4E-IjiEq2XNq9aA5i1GMgMDvLefZrI3pcVDnyZpTC1_H3zffRWU8yfH3-7qPoqA2OUI74ZVJlOmI0bPT_ejhLKJBVWJzrHhERE/s320/DSCN1206.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Below shows a good reference of the pumps that people would have used back then to get water. I learnt that these would often get infected with bacteria and could easily spread illness. They were the one of the only sources of water.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The picture below shows the type of bucket people would have used in there houses for a variety of things. The most common uses were to hold water for washing or for mopping.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Below shows a half timber house. This is the sort of houses that we are looking to model. These types of houses were very common around the era and were seen in and out of London.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This, below, is a cart which would be found around the markets. Carts were also used to shovel sewage out of the gutters but they looked very similar to these but lower to the ground and looked more like wheelbarrows.</div><br />

</div> The images below shows a typical house. They were very cramped and top heavy. The higher floors were always larger than the lower ones so they looked as though they were going to topple over. They were also timber framed with large wooden doors. They also had low ceilings.<br />

<br />
Primarily, I have been looking at websites and images of old London. Because it has been around the time of the plague, I have been researching about conditions and lifestyle around then. The main <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">websites I have looked at are:</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites/H/history/i-m/london2.html</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">(a website about the history of London run by channel 4)</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/English/Learning/Learningonline/features/viking/viking_4.htm</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">(a website about medieval london from the museum of London)</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">This gave me a great starting point. It also helped me with making our scene historically correct.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div style="font: 12.0px Helvetica; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">The channel 4 website I found extremely useful. I discovered that London was a very tightly packed city with a lot of houses in a short amount of space. This was what caused the bad conditions.</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; min-height: 18.0px;"><br />
</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">The large amounts of people caused dirt and cramped areas. There are gutters on each side of the street where the dirt and grime would collect, not just from the street but the grime from the houses ended up there too. Such as dirty bath water and sewage. People did not care about hygiene then either so there was a large amount of body odour only adding to the filth. They would also wear the same clothes for massive amounts of time and sleep in them too. They would sometimes sleep with several people which would cause heat and sweat leading to more stench.</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; min-height: 18.0px;"><br />
</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">The authorise employed a team of cleaners to keep the city free of filth but there was too much filth to keep in control of. They would carry large carts and have spades to shovel up the sewage from the gutters in the streets.</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">The sanitation was a massive issue because there were open sewers everywhere. The rivers became so dirty that they were almost as bad as the sewers. This was because the sewers would run into the river so that large amounts of faeces and sewage and waste would end up going straight not the river.</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; min-height: 18.0px;"><br />
</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">They relied on wells to get their water which always had a risk of contamination. This made many people sick and because of the cramped conditions, sickness spread easily. When the Black Death hit London, it spread very fast and people would die within a matter of days because of the poor conditions.</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; min-height: 18.0px;"><br />
</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; min-height: 18.0px;"><br />
</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">I found out some more information on the museum of london website.</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; min-height: 18.0px;"><br />
</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">Most people in London traders, peasants, beggars thieves or herders which would herd animals throughout the streets. </div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; min-height: 18.0px;"><br />
</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">Most of the schools were run by churches and religion was a strong influence.</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; min-height: 18.0px;"><br />
</div><div style="font: 16.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">There was not a lot of medical knowledge so little illnesses that effect us today, such as the common cold, would have been life threatening back then. The healthcare was also expensive so the doctors mainly cared for the rich which meant there was a lot of death.</div></span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">When my group and I met to discuss the idea we had decided on having gates that were really gothic and old. We also decided that our scene would follow a rat and that the rat would start in the sewer and crawl out from the drain. We then had the idea of people throwing rubbish and dirty water out of windows which would add grime and dirt to our scene.</span><br />
<br />
By doing research, I discovered that gates were not found in a cramped London street that was filled with poverty. Gates were used to protect the large manor houses on the outskirts of the town where people were much richer. This was because gates were used as protection and in an old London street full of poor people, there was nothing worth protecting.<br />
<br />
I also discovered that the rat climbing out of a drain would not be historically correct because there were no sewers until much later. All the sewage would be poured into the street into gutters running down each road. There was no underground system.<br />
<br />
This did mean we needed to rethink our idea slightly but it was not too much of a hassle.<br />
<br />
My next port of call is to visit some places. There are a few museums and attractions to visit such as the Museum of London and Dickens World. These will both give me a good idea into what houses and the conditions of the town in that era.<br />
<br />
As I have looked into London more and more, I have discovered that Sherlock Holmes was filmed in Chatham Dockyard and some surrounding areas. I can visit these places quite easily and plan to get some good photographs which will help my research.Oly Waltershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02871000531208525919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8799499787791851288.post-9202224658046757582010-10-26T19:00:00.004+01:002011-01-06T13:41:56.244+00:00EnvironmentsI have been given the brief to create a 3D environment.<br />
<br />
I have to work within a group or team and we can pretty much do whatever we like, except the obvious such as castles, si-fi and just really cliché environments.<br />
<br />
As a group we have all decided upon an old London street around the time of the plague. Everyone has had the idea of it being really cramped, dark and dirty.<br />
<br />
The first thing to do is research. This part will take up quite a bit of thinking about. We want it to be all historically correct.<br />
<br />
Here is an analysis of the brief, taken from the group blog by Deon.<br />
<br />
You will be working within teams and working in different roles.<br />
You will be making a short collaborative film which will give you the opportunity to work in different roles.<br />
<br />
You will work to create an animated environment. The environment will be modelled in 3D, UV mapped, textures and lit based on research you have accumulated. <br />
<br />
The environment needs to be based on real buildings and drawings and research needs to be shown. This is to show the link between your design and real world examples. This research could consist of practical site visits, ideas from books and images from different sources.<br />
<br />
The environment must consist of animation, whether it is mechanical, effects of weather on objects, organic or atmospheric. It could also be a change over time, change in lighting or changes in use of the environment.<br />
<br />
A blog is needed to go with the work.<br />
<br />
The main things to focus on are the lighting, and how it effects the mood and appearance, reflection within the group and individually, analysis and replication of a real environment and created in 3D and build a CG environment. You must also contribute to the group.<br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #c6c6c6; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: black; font-family: Times;">The assessment criteria states that it will be marked on the students own reflective blog, the replication of the environment, the lighting and the way the animation has been added to the environment.</span></span><br />
